1.  Testing - Concrete Targets

A comparative test of the US-manufactured Consistent Hole(CH) perforating charge JRC210/230 and coaxial perforating charge was conducted on concrete targets. The results indicate that the coaxial perforating charge exhibits a lower non-uniformity rate of hole diameter and produces more consistent boreholes.

2. Testing - Aluminum Target

This Section setup will test a single shaped charge in a test jig that represents gun carrier, steel casing and cement annulus.

Before, during and after perforation, pressures are measured. When the test is complete the AL target is removed and placed in a computed tomography (CT) scanner to evaluate tunnel geometry and penetration. Measurements of gun, casing, cement and AL billet entry and exit holes were made.

Comparing scans, it was noted that the targets perforated with propellant had a cleaner tunnel (liner materials removed by secondary propellant pressure pulse).
